Running in a special election? All special election campaigns must attend a Compliance training specific to the special election cycle by the final day of the 11 day pre-special disclosure period. See Board Rule 15-05 and review the Special Elections page for more information. 

Compliance

Compliance trainings cover campaign finance laws and CFB rules. The candidate, treasurer or campaign manager is legally required to attend this training.

A Compliance training must be completed prior to attending a C-SMART training.

C-SMART

C-SMART trainings provide an overview of the CFB’s web-based application, which campaigns must use to manage and disclose financial activity. The candidate, treasurer or campaign manager is legally required to attend this training.

New to the CFB

The New to the CFB training is optional and geared toward first-time candidates and campaign staff. This training will provide an overview of some of the expectations and demands of running for city office.

Recommendation: Attend this training prior to the mandatory Compliance and C-SMART trainings.

Post-Election

Post-Election trainings help campaigns understand the post-election audit documentation requests and how to properly respond.  During the training, we review common types of CFB audit findings, make basic recommendations on how to respond, and offer tips to help organize your campaign's response.

If the candidate, treasurer, or campaign manager completes the Post-Election training, the issuance of your campaign's Final Audit Report may be expedited per CFB Rule 10-02 (a).

Statement Review

The Statement Review training is designed to help your campaign understand the pre-election audit process and, more specifically, how to respond to statement reviews. Statement reviews are sent to your campaign after each disclosure statement and are opportunities to correct compliance issues, reporting discrepancies, and invalid matching claims that can affect your campaign’s compliance and eligibility for public funds.

In this optional training, we go over the various compliance reports included in a statement review, how to address common Invalid Matching Claims (IMC) codes, and the components of submitting a timely and complete statement review response to the CFB.

Note: Attend this training only if you are registered with the CFB and have submitted a disclosure statement.
