Freedom of Information Law (FOIL)

Many types of records are available to the public under the New York State Freedom of Information Law (FOIL).

See the Board Rules and Committee on Open Government for more information about FOIL and about records that may be withheld under FOIL.

Requests for records must be in writing, and may be made via email ([email protected]), fax (212-409-1705, attn: Records Access Officer), or regular mail (attn: Records Access Officer, New York City Campaign Finance Board, 100 Church Street, 12th Floor, New York, NY 10007). Your request should:

  1. Describe the records you are seeking as specifically as possible, including as much of the following as possible:
    • The titles of documents,
    • Dates,
    • Any other information that will enable the Records Access Officer to identify the records you are requesting.
  2. Include how you would like to receive the requested records (electronic or paper format) if your request is approved, or partially approved.
  3. Include a mailing address as well as a daytime phone number, and email address, in case the Records Access Officer has any questions about your request.

Other Information Requests

Candidates and others who have filed with the CFB: to receive copies of documentation previously submitted to the CFB, you should contact your CFB liaison directly.

The CFB’s website contains freely available information, for which no FOIL request is required, about campaign contributions, expenditures, independent expenditures, enforcement, and includes links to items such as lists of candidates, campaign finance maps, final audit reports, final board determinations, voter guides, voter registration information and post-election reports.
